This major update succeeds version 1909 (also known as the Windows 10 November 2019 Update). That version was released to the general public on November 12, 2019. The previous version was version 1903, which was released on May 21, 2019. The version 1909 release was deliberately scaled down to include only "a scoped set of features for select performance improvements, enterprise features, and quality enhancements." Anyone running version 1903 received the version 1909 update as a lightweight "enablement package," which installed in only a few minutes.
In its first two years, Windows 10 had separate release schedules for consumer and business editions. In mid-2017, Microsoft consolidated these two channels into a single one. Business and enterprise customers can opt to defer the appearance of new releases in Windows Update for up to 365 days after the general release date using the Windows Update for Business feature set.
We will also look at the technical advancement of Windows Server 2022 and how SMBs (small to medium-sized businesses) and large enterprises can benefit from this innovative and robust Windows server platform.
With the adoption of Microsoft Windows Server 2022, enterprises can manage their businesses with a secure infrastructure, integrate their existing virtual environments into their hybrid cloud models, and restructure their applications to meet demanding growth.
One significant new interface element for businesses is virtual desktops. An idea brazenly lifted from the Linux world, Windows 10's virtual desktops let you keep different sets of apps open in different desktops. You might, for example, have one desktop dedicated to communications (with, say, Outlook, Slack and Skype running) and another for work on a particular project (Excel and a web browser). It allows you to compartmentalise your work, and avoid having desktops cluttered with several open windows, but it's frustrating that many apps designed to run full-screen on a touchscreen can only occupy a single desktop.
While Windows Server lacks many of the commercial software uses inherent in home editions of Windows, it instead comes with or supports a wide variety of business enterprise software. For example, Windows Server can support Active Directory, which is a key user management service that allows the server to provide user authentication and access control. Likewise, Windows Server supports DHCP, which allows the server to assign IP addresses to every device on the network.
As Windows Server is an enterprise product, it is significantly more expensive than Windows home editions. Pricing ranges from $501 for Windows Server 2019 Essentials to $6,155 for the comprehensive Windows Server Datacenter. Compare this to Windows 10 Pro, the most expensive version of the home edition OS, which is priced at $309. Small businesses can likely benefit from the Windows Server 2019 Essentials version rather than the more costly Datacenter product, though.
IP Protection, now in preview, is for small- and medium-sized businesses and will provide enterprise-grade protection at an affordable price point. Customers will have the flexibility to enable DDoS protection on an individual public IP to defend against DDoS attacks. IP Protection is cost-effective and provides enterprise-grade capabilities such as adaptive real-time policy tuning, detailed attack analytics and service-level agreement (SLA) guarantee.

The Business Process Improvement Checklist provides a methodology for defining a process, understanding how to identify improvement opportunities, how to design meaningful performance measures, how to analyze problems in a systematic way, the different tools used for problem-solving, how to implement process improvements, and ongoing monitoring of business process performance. BEM's Perigon Method is the recognized best practice approach to achieving sustainable process improvement.
The BMM model provides a blueprint designed to support a range of methodologies. BMM 1.3 ensures the elements are stored and related to other information about the enterprise and is particularly strong in support of processes that are driven by business change.
The Value Delivery Modeling Language (VDML) closes the gap between strategic plans, business requirements, the transformation of business operations and design of operational systems of an agile enterprise. It focuses the value creation as a network of collaborations within the enterprise, applying capabilities to create value and the delivery of values in customer value propositions.
SAFe 5 enables business agility and improving business outcomes for organizations of all sizes across the world. SAFe has produced dramatic improvements in time to market, employee engagement, higher quality, higher customer satisfaction, and overall improved economic outcomes. It also helps create cultures that are more productive, rewarding, and fun.
A hallmark of SAFe is that it stays current with new and evolving business and technology trends. Our incremental delivery model enables enterprises to adapt more quickly and stay ahead of the competition by leveraging the latest knowledge in SAFe. For example, COVID-19 forced many organizations to change how Agile teams and ARTs collaborate. In response, the guidance for PI Planning, Organizational Agility, and Agile Teams were quickly updated.
The three competencies above provide the technical practices needed to build and deploy meaningful business solutions. But none of them directly address the more significant issue of why those solutions are required, how they are funded and governed, and what other solutions are necessary to deliver complete enterprise value. For that, we need to address portfolio concerns. However, traditional approaches to portfolio management were not designed for the impact of digital disruption. These factors put pressure on enterprises to work under a higher degree of uncertainty, and yet deliver innovative solutions much faster. Portfolio Management approaches must be modernized to support the new Lean-Agile way of working. The Lean Portfolio Management competency aligns strategy and execution by applying Lean and systems thinking. As Figure 7 illustrates, it accomplishes this through three collaborations for strategy and investment funding, Agile portfolio operations, and Lean governance. 2ff7e9595c
